Are You Exercising Too Much? – 6 Signs

You pretty much can’t go anywhere without hearing some talking head or seeing some ad reminding you, once again, how important it is to exercise. Exercise fights off aging, regulates mood and sleep and of course gives you the shape you want. But could you be exercising too much? “No such thing,” you say? Absolutely. There is a healthy amount of exercise and there is abusing your body (and mind). Find out if you need to ease off the spinning classes a tad.

Exercise is an Obligation. Exercise is good for you, but you should feel good about it. It shouldn’t feel like a weight hanging over your head (unless that is a stack of weights at the gym).

You are Obsessed with Weight. If you are weighing yourself two or more times a day, especially to see if one power workout has made a big immediate impact, you might be taking it too far. Exercise is a long range game. You should be thinking of it as a part of your life, not poor body image mania.

Calories Become Evil. If every time you consume food, you calculate how much exercise it will take to burn off the calories, you are probably obsessively exercising. This goes along with point number 3.

Dramatic Weight Loss. Yes, weight loss is a major goal of exercising, but if you are losing more than three pounds a week, you probably are pushing yourself too hard.

Constantly Hurting Yourself. If you are constantly injuring yourself or find that you have a lot of chronic pain, you could be overworking muscles and/or joints. Rest is just as important as exercise itself. You need to give your body the time it needs to recover from the exercise you do.

Loss of Energy. Exercise is meant to give you more energy. If you arte drained all the time, maybe you’re overdoing it. Once again, rest is the best medicine.
