Healthy, quick dinners

After a long day at work, the very LAST thing I want to do is spend a ton of time in the kitchen. But, I'm also not willing to go get takeout or head through the drive-thru - my health is way more important than that! Instead, over the past five years, I've developed tons of quick, healthy and tasty recipes.

My friends and family have finally convinced me that I should start teaching cooking classes, so I'm doing it. There's a class this week, April 8th, and another on May 13th. You can find out more on my website - www.healthyjulia.com and clicking on the events section.

There are a few seats left for the class this Thursday - register at www.healthyjulia.com or call me at 503-841-6529.

Setting Goals for the new year that are not resolutions

Goal setting is something that we all should apply in our lives. We
need to all have goals set for ourselves so that we are able to
have the life that we are looking for. When we have goals set for
ourselves on a daily basis and even in the future, we will have
something that we need to look forward to and work hard to achieve.

It is not hard to use goal setting in your life. The most important
thing is to think about what you want and how to get it. Are you
interested in getting something out of life? Most of us are. It is
just a matter of figuring it all out and then thinking up some
goals that will work for you and your dreams.

The time to start is now, set the goals and work on them in 2010.

Getting the strength I need to leave an abusive marriage

I have to believe that I am going through this so that some day I can help someone else. That, and my darling children are what is giving me the strength to finally leave my emotionally, and sometimes physically, abusive husband. It breaks my heart that I have brought my kids into this situation - they are 17 months (twins) and I am determined to get out before they ever have rememberance of what is happening. I also know that I have to stop thinking about regrets and face the future.

My husband and I have been together for 9 years - married for 3. He started emotionally abusing me after only a few months - yet I was young and I loved him and believed he could change. 9 years, countless breakups and reconciliations, and 2 children later - something inside of me has clicked and I've finally started listening to the voices in my head. I am finally strong enough to leave this person who makes me miserable - miserable to the point of somedays I can even bring myself to eat.

Yes, You Need a Cover Letter!

People ask me daily, “Do I really need a cover letter?”

And every day I answer, “Yes, you do!”

The cover letter is an essential document in your job search. If you want to end up on the “contact for an interview” list, read on to learn how a professionally written cover letter can benefit you.

1. A cover letter announces what position you would like to apply for.

Imagine you are a decision maker for a Fortune 500 company. This company receives over two million internet hits daily on its careers page. Now consider how many resumes might be submitted each week. Without an accompanying cover letter, the hiring manger has to weed through the resume pile, attempting to discern what jobseekers are applying for. It is likely that many of the resumes end up being tossed aside. Sending a cover letter keeps the hiring manager from making assumptions when it concerns your resume.

2. A cover letter offers an added opportunity for you to market yourself.

My 17 yr old daughter is getting ready for her

prom, and she has been dating the same boy since last October, who she wants to go to the prom with.

He is native american with obvious indian features (my daughter is white with blond hair). They look cute together, and look nice in pictures with their contrasting features.
My daughter *REALLY* likes that he is native american indian, and has gone to a few sweat lodge ceremonies and pow-wows with him. Apparently, he has won several awards for his traditional dancing/

Today he did an indian dance exhibition, which he was paid for doing with 2 other boys. After that, my daughter and her boyfriend came here for a BBQ after his dancing exhibition.
He was still wearing his traditional dance wear, which consisted of head band with 2 feathers, an open vest over his shoulders, breach cloth, moccasions, a lot of body paint, and some kind of a that that was over his butt and created a semi-circle of feathers. My daughter made a big deal of showing him in his traditional clothiing to all of us.

Does anyone else manage their stress by getting massage?

Drink More Water at Work

Put a glass of water on your desk at work. When you get thirsty you’ll have the option of getting up and walking all the way to the break room for a soda or staying putting and having some H2O right there.
